Monsoon season in Pakistan means real risk to phones and accessories from sudden rain, flooding, and high humidity. Here's how to actually prepare.
Immediate Rain Protection
- Keep a spare zip-lock or waterproof pouch in your bag during monsoon months — the simplest, cheapest protection for sudden downpours
- Avoid charging during active rain if outlets/wiring are exposed — electrical safety matters more than device protection in genuinely wet conditions
- If your phone gets wet, power it off immediately and don't attempt to charge it until fully dry — charging a wet device significantly increases damage risk
What About Water-Resistant Accessories?
Check the IP rating on earbuds and power banks if you're regularly exposed to rain (see our IP rating guide) — IPX4+ rated accessories handle splashes and light rain meaningfully better than non-rated ones.
Humidity's Slower, Less Obvious Damage
Beyond direct rain exposure, Pakistan's monsoon humidity can cause slower corrosion in charging ports and connectors over the season, even without a single direct water exposure incident. Regularly check and clean charging ports (see our port cleaning guide) more frequently during monsoon months.
If a Device Does Get Wet
- Power off immediately
- Do not charge until certain it's fully dry
- Avoid using rice or other DIY drying methods that can leave residue in ports — open air drying in a dry room is more reliable
- If charging behavior seems off after drying, have it checked before continued regular charging
