Device-by-device compatibility checklist
For an iPhone
- iPhone 15 and later use USB-C.
- Most earlier iPhones use Lightning.
- Check the port on repaired, refurbished or unusually configured devices rather than relying only on the seller's model label.
For an iPad
Some iPads use USB-C and older models use Lightning. Apple lists USB-C EarPods support for USB-C iPads running iPadOS 16.4 or later. Lightning EarPods require a Lightning connector and compatible software.
For a Mac
Apple lists USB-C EarPods support for USB-C Macs running macOS Monterey 12.6 or later. Lightning EarPods are not the normal direct-fit choice for a Mac.
